Default Lake Nighthorse

Finally opening it for recreation. I remember reading about them stuffing it with Kokes to have another place for egg harvest.

Quote:
Durango, CO: The City of Durango and Bureau of Reclamation have announced that motorized boating and launching from trailers at Lake Nighthorse will be delayed until Saturday, May 19, 2018. The Bureau of Reclamation is repairing the parking lot at the boat ramp and this construction project will not be completed by the previously announced date of May 15 for opening the Lake to motorized boating. However, the Lake will be open daily beginning on May 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for paddling and non-motorized hand launched watercraft.

In preparation for motorized boating at Lake Nighthorse, boats without an exit inspection documented with a seal and white receipt from another area reservoir or from a known Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) infected lake such as Navajo Lake can come to Lake Nighthorse May 15 through May 18 between the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a complimentary boat inspection and obtain a certified seal to enter the Lake when motorized boating begins on May 19. Boats with motors that have most recently visited Navajo Lake, which is infected with Eurasian Watermilfoil, a known ANS plant species, will be required to have the motor flushed with hot water to decontaminate the vessel. The Durango Parks and Recreation Department encourages boaters to obtain the advance boat inspection to avoid potential delays to entry at Lake Nighthorse on May 19 or thereafter.

In the future, all motorized boats are encouraged to obtain an exit inspection when leaving area lakes prior to coming to Lake Nighthorse. These inspections are documented by certified officials and verified with a seal and receipt. Out of state motorized watercraft are permitted at Lake Nighthorse, however, boats will be subject to a high-risk inspection and possibly delayed entry dependent upon the findings of the inspection. All decontaminations are dependent upon staff and resource availability.

For additional information regarding boating at Lake Nighthorse, contact Durango Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office at (970) 375-7321 or the Lake Nighthorse entrance station at (970) 375-7335 or by email at [email protected]

I did the aquatic baseline study for this project in 1976. Glad I'm alive to see it filled.

Anyone fish this area since the fire this Spring? Was it effected?
Thinking about a trip next week or so.

It was unaffected. Haven't talked to anyone who has fished it though.
