Default Any Frog Fishers?

Having LOTS of missed hook sets, new to frog fishing and looking for some tips on more hook sets. They blow it up, take it sideways and 2-3 seconds I go to set the hook and initially feel like they’re on but no dice 🤔 Tried everything I can think of

Iíve always used a small hook about 3-4í off the end of a cane pole. When you hit them with the light they think the hook is a mosquito and canít resist themselves.

A lot of my friends just use their hand, but I found that too challenging.

The misses could be due to a couple things, first make sure the hooks on the frogs are super sharp, I sharpen them right out of the package. Second what kind of line and what pound test are you using, minimum 10lb and I've read that braid works even better than mono. Last, is your rod stiff enough(no Viagra jokes please lol) to get the hook set, at least a medium action.

Hmm...Im using a 6’10” Medium Cast A Way rod, on an Abu Revo SXT, 20lb test (fishing in the slop), I haven’t tried sharping the hooks more. It’s the most frustrating thing, I honestly have missed 10+ nice size Bass that have just demolished it coming up and I let em run with it w/no slack for 2-3 secs, I yank back and think I’ve set it then they come off halfway through the retrieve. I’m wondering if I need to switch to a reel down and hook set approach.

In my opinion your rod is to wimpy for frog fishing.. My frog setup is a 7'3 heavy with 30lb braid. What brand frog are you using? I have yet to find a frog that doesn't need some tweeking out of the box.. you can also try bending the hooks up a little and lock down your drag.

x2... and IMHO... reel down for 3 count and then cross their eyes.

I just went out yesterday afternoon and frogged a lake I have had success on in the past, guess what, I was one for six. There were lots of heavy weeds but the only way I could get a raise was moving the frog faster than I usually do. The problem was the fish would blow up but not make contact with the frog and they wouldn't raise a second time. There was another fisherman there using frogs also and he was fishing very slow and methodical, but he had got no action at all when I talked to him on the way out just after dark.
That's why they call it fishing not catching, I think the high sky, bright sunshine and high barometer all played a part in this frustrating trip.I was using a black popping Scum frog. The regular frog finish got no hits at all.

I just finally got my Teckel Sprinker Frogs in today and am going out tomorrow through Monday. I would greatly appreciate a PM on some spots you’ve had LM Bass success. I can share some of mine too
