Default Crappie Identification

Just was noticing on some of the posts that alot of people are having a hard time figuring out if its a white of black crappie.* So I have this photo that explains the difference and figured post it to help people out.
Hope this helps people out since this is one of my favorite fish and love to see them posted on here.

yes we have some of both in colorado and if you go by the co record the white gets bigger the record white was almost a pound heavyer but same length

unfortunatly i cant count the spines in this pic do you think these are white or black, interesting about the white males getting darker at spawn and being mis identified

To me those all look like White Crappie but without a good side profile you cant tell really. Just next time you are in the area you caught those just remember to count if they have 6 spikes White more and its Black. I know BrushHollow has both White and Black and so does Pueblo. I have not caught crappie in any other lake in Colorado so cant say what are in other lakes.

I "think" black crappie males also darken at spawn... I "think" they are all black crappie. We need a bug and bunny guy to clarify for us.
