Default Lake trout and or Perch on Sunday 11/24/19

Hi All;

Just moved to Colorado from Florida and would like to get some fishing in this weekend before everything freezes. I would be most appreciative of places to go, bait and or lures to try. Been a long time since I fished freshwater and really looking forward to it. Would like to stay within an hour or two of Denver. thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum John!

Lake Trout and Perch are far and wide between. Only place you have both in at the same time is Blue Mesa which is 4 plus hours away. You kind of have to go with one or the other. At this time the lake trout are very shallow and are more likely to be caught but please only keep 15 to 19 inchers and let the big moma's go so they can grow.

As far as perch you can fish for them off the bottom with worms on a lot of front range lakes that have perch. Here is a resource for you to try to find where the perch are in the state: https://ndismaps.nrel.colostate.edu/...p=FishingAtlas

Also if you'd like to know how to catch lake trout with tube jig from shore I made a little video: https://youtu.be/hc868cvNizI

Hope this helps!

Thanks just what I was looking for! I will let the big ones grow! I am not big on keeping anyway, just love the sport and I saw lots of overfishing in Florida. Appreciate the link for perch. I had seen your video earlier and will be trying that technique as well. Looks like Granby might be frozen though. I have backpacked out there many times up to Gore Lake. Thanks again will let you know how I do!

Blue Mesa isn't the only lake with perch and lakers, but there aren't many.

Try Granby for lakers. It's a great place to start and not too far away. It's not frozen yet, and won't be for a few more weeks. Ice fishing season is great time to catch lakers if you don't have a boat!
