Default 11 mile canyon river pike.

I caught two 20 inch Pike in the catch and release section of the river, I usually toss pike on the bank to die, but because I was in a C&R section of the river I put them back . I dont think they are supposed to be in the river, and I was suprized when I saw what I had on. Did these get washed down from the 11 mile res.?, or were they stocked? I guess I will call DOW and tell them. (I was fishing in front of the second bridge.) Has anyone caught a pike in this part of the river before?

Don't tell them you usually throw them on the bank - it's illegal to waste game fish.

I posed a question to them last year about carp - if you catch them, you have to try to eat them or throw them back.

That's the rule for ALL game fish.

Not trying to stir the pot, just relaying what I was told.

I did the same thing when a friend of mine caught a pike out of there, roughly the same size. *It was kind of confusing--my instinct was to keep it. *And, he wanted to keep it. *But, we put it back.

Seems like they might want to revisit this. *The only fish we sighted that day in the canyon in C&R and non C&R water were pike.

I think if you read closely the actual regulation only says "all trout must be returned to the water immediately."

From below Elevenmile Dam to Wagon Tongue Gulch Rd bridge at Springer Gulch (Elevenmile
Canyon):
a. Artificial flies and lures only.
b. All trout must be returned to the water immediately.
From Cheesman Dam downstream to upper Wigwam Club property - GOLD MEDALWATER:
a. Artificial flies and lures only.
b. All trout must be returned to the water immediately.
From lower boundary of Wigwam Club to Scraggy View picnic

The way I read it the pike is fair game What did it hit?

Thanks, foldem! I thought that's what it said, but couldn't remember and didn't have a copy with me so we erred on the side of caution. But next time, we'll go up for our "limit" hahahahha

Oh, and my friend caught his on a Rapala shad rap, I forget the color, but something bright. Here was the original report:

Sounds like a fun time and the pike population sounds pretty big. I'll gladly go up there and try to thin out the little pike a little bit.

Do the suckers bite in there? Flies maybe?
