Default Chicago Lakes

I usually hit Chicago Lakes (mt evans) this time each year. This year is a bit different, anyone know if it is still iced up?

I havent been there but based on my observations in the area, I'd say that it is OPEN. There might be some heavier snow than usual on the way and around the lake.

By "it is" I may or may not have meant "it is open" ....The lower lake's prob open on the edges but it's prob still got ice on it. Maybe I'll go Sunday.

I will try to post on saturday night for your sunday trip. I love the hike in, it starts me to get in better shape for the high altitude hunting seasons. I love the high mountain lakes. Hanging Lake on the other side of Mt Evans was putting out some good size last year.

I am not sure that it is open, but Slayer has probably been in the area more recently. I usually wait until 15th to be safe, but no fish in there anyway.....damn shame, nothing to see here people, move along

I agree totally. Dead lakes. No need to go up there. No life in them at all.

I was up there today. The only lake I saw ice on was by the parking area on the Mt. Evans road (half way to the observatory on the west side) and even that one was thawing. The lakes down below the road were ice free (and fish were rising). Echo lake is ice free as well (it was frozen last weekend).

All I saw was the likes of this guy and his buddy that wanted to jump into the truck with me...

Those rises were probably just insects hatching. I think both lakes winterkill anyway.
