Default Fishing Line Question

I have been trying out some different types of fishing line and I would love to hear some of your thoughts about what works best.

Currently I have 8lb Berkley Vanish fluro spooled up and I am not sure I like the amount of flex this line has. When landing a fish, the flex feels, well, "excessive" and I am not sure I enjoy the sensation.

Before that I had spooled up with 20lb Spider Wire Braided line and I loved the way the line was stiff and had little flex. I hated casting the line as it felt "waxy" and seemed to have some resistance. Also I started to get so many "wind knots" that I spent half my time cutting out knots.

I also had on 8lb mono and I did like that, it just felt weak and it was difficult to recover lures if they snagged on any structure.

I really would like to go back to braided if there was a product out there that was smooth casting and was easy to slip wind knots out.
Is there such a thing?
Thank you all for viewing and thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Have you tried p-line 10/2 yet. I think it is a good one. I have been playing with lines and haven't found the one yet ether.

I have had good luck with Fireline/mono leader combo but I will say that my next line will be power pro--its too highly regarded not to try.

Don't really like the braids too much, but for mono try some Cajon Red.

Ditch the Vanish, try something like p-line cxx (VERY strong line), or clear Trilene XL. If you must use a braid, Power Pro is pretty sweet. For the problems you seem to be having though, I would definetly recommend the P-Line.

As far as braid goes I agree. Ive used Power pro, Spiderwire and ugly braid and like PP the best.

As far as Mono/copolymer line goes I really like Silver Thread. Its cheap and strong as a rope.

I used to be a big supporter of Cajun Red. Not so much anymore as far as a casting reel goes as I think it has to much memory and makes it hard to cast far a accurate. I do use it on my down rigger rods and it works just fine.

I started using triple fish floro(as a leader) this year and am very impressed thus far. Good price and seems to hold a knot great(I use a canoe knot)

I think you should try different lines for different situations. Im a line whore and love trying new lines.

Hope this helps

I love Power Pro braided line for trolling and vertical jigging. I absolutely do not like braided line for casting though. Just doesn't seem to work as well as mono (or I am not doing something right). I always use a 2'-3' mono leader (8lb Maxima Chameleon) with my braided line.

I use 4-6lb Stren Extra Strength for my trout stream reels. I like the lo-vis green color.
