Default How to deal with the bugs...

So bug spray = death most of the time when fishing...

But looking like you have the mumps and itching for the next two weeks sucks a big one.

So how do you guys cope?

I normally just use the aerosols and then before rigging anything up get some power bait out and smear it all over my hands then rinse them off.

Anyone ever used on of those sonic emitters? I used to use one when I was younger and not fishing so often. Worked awesome for the mosquitos but I wonder about the sound being tranmitted through the water?

Anyway, we are getting into prime mosquito season so I thought this was an appropriate topic.

Off in an aerosol can works well. Don't usually have a problem. I tried using that other stuff that doesn't have deet but it didn't work for me (both the Skin So Soft and the other stuff introduced on the market about a year or two ago - can't remember the name).

At night, if I'm camping, I'll light one of those incense coils - I swear by them. You can't find them as much as you used to but I think they're terrific.

I have my wife spray me before I got out, so I don't get that stuff on my hands...

100% deet is what I use when hunting and fishing in Canada and Alaska.

The Bullfrog sunscreen with repelant is what I'm using nowadays since I've had a couple sun spots on my face from years in the boat. So far its a good product for both sun protection and bug repellant IMO.

I used the lindy scent free soap religously on my hand while fishing. It seems to do just fine for getting rid of the scent of the bug spray. Of course it washes off the reppelant/sunscreen too.

I just buy a few citronella bushes and plant them where I like to fish.
