Default Rawah Wilderness Area advice

I planning on making my first venture out to the Rawah Wilderness area soon. Anyone been up that way lately? How's the snow at the upper elevations? Any suggestions on a hike I could take my Gf on for the day... stop at a lake to eat a packed lunch and fish for a couple hours and then hike back before nightfall would be greatly appreciated.

I would be totally into a multi-day hike but I do not have the proper equipment (lightweight pack/sleeping bag/tent) for it at the moment. (If anyone has some old stuff laying around let me know)

The West Branch Trail is a good place to start. Most of the hikes are 6-8 miles in but still a ok day trip. The crater lakes is beautiful. Lab

Beware! Last summer the mosquitoes were awful. Take a quart of bug spray or they will make you miserable.
