Default White Fish

I will be in Vail this weekend. Can anyone recommend some good spots for White fish? What method you recommend fly, spin or bait?

I used to catch them in the Eagle river, in the canyon section below Eagle. They were always in the deep eddy part of pools. A size 16 Beadhead Pheasant tail meant for trout always caught some. They are good strong fighters and much better to eat than trout! IMO.

Gore creek that runs right through Vail has whitefish. I used to catch them up there while fishing for trout. Use a mayfly pattern and fish it dry.

Good Luck and Good Fishing!

My fiance caought a nice 14 in White fish this weekend on the upper colorado river on a silver spoon. Have seen multible other white fish in this section from pumphouse to statebridge. Also, Roaring Fork has plenty of white in there, with plenty of public access. I have never caught one out of the eagle or the gore, but i bet they are in there. They are cool fish. Good luck.

They seem to be pretty well entrenched in the Lower Eagle. I think they are cool fish and alot of fun to hook!

Neal, they are fun fish to catch. They are so different than bows or browns. They are a solid stocky fish. I just moved to eagle, and was wondering how far down the eagle you have found these fish, are they close to the Colo river. Im guessing you are talking about just west of Gypsum.

I took the road (Hwy 6?) down and under I70. There is a wooded canyon along that stretch where the Eagle narrows a little and there are some real nice pools.

keep your fly on the bottom in the deepest pools you can find. As for fly selection, I use anything brown and size 18-20.
