Default Anybody fish Pueblo yet?

Just wondered if anybodys been down to Pueblo yet? I know its still a little early for the bass but the walleye might be coming shallow. I like to fish this lake, especially before the water warms and pleasure boaters, jetskiers, etc. take over. Ed

ePiC-You can shore fish around the north marina and most of the coves on the north side of the lake are acessible but its one of those lakes that are much better fished from a boat. I do see some guys bank fishing-mostly for trout this time of year and then walleye, wipers or catfish when it gets warmer. Ed

Yeah I think I'm going to be doing some catfishing down there this year, someone has to break the flathead state record.

Hey Ken,good luck at C-CREEK,youre gonna need it! Not saying I,m the great fisherman but Ive fished c-creek since 1972.The last 4 years have been brutal, with each year worst than the preceding one.Oh sure, youll get into some, maybe even a wallhanger, but to me its not worth the long hours of skunking for that one chance at glory! But then again,to each his own!

I was there Friday 3/4/05. No luck. Tried jigs/pigs, LC jerkbaits, cranksbaits, and finally jig/minnows. One half baked bite on the minnow in an area I know holds smallies and kentuckies. Water temp way in the back was 48 but the water was like mud with lots of debris floating in it. Dam side of the lake was 44-45 gin clear. Big schools of shad moving into the coves. I hope in a couple of weeks the jerkbait bite will be on.

With the water temps being that low where you deadsticking your jerkbait? Look for wood or early weed cover like green stalks from grass or pads and over the tops of brush. Then cast past the point you are aiming for and jerk- jerk the lure then pause and let it dead stick. This means a really really long pause escpecially in cold water the longer the better I usually pace myself like this. I let it sit and sit and when I cant handle it any more I count to 10-1-thousand and jerk - jerk again and pause all over again.
When I get a chance to go after early spring bass this is how I usually do it, if you arent having any success throwing everything in the tackle box at them like you did that day try this technique ove a couple different cover spots.

I was dead sticking 7 to 10 seconds. I had time to try various early spring methods. I swung and I missed the ball. Next time hopefully a few degrees of warmth will make the difference. By the way it was nice to see the lake filliing up again!

I figured if you were fishing bass already you were probably deadsticking, I explained more for other peopel who might not know what it was. I agree low 50's to mid 50's they should start hitting good.l
