I am heading out to Chatfield Sat. morning, just want some info from any and all that are willing to share, Whats bitting, where, and on what... oh and depths too. Thanks to all and hope to see any of you out there as well.
A BAD DAY FISHING IS BETTER THEN A GOOD DAY AT WORK....
I dunno' about on fire but it has been fairly decent. You'll run across some who are catching some decent numbers and others getting blanked. I've been out there three different afternoons (I know, it can be better earlier in the day but you get out when you can, ya' know). Anyhow, I usually catch 8-10 on any given outing, although the last time out, I only got 3 trout (14-16") in four hours, it was slow (for me anyway). You're absolutely right about finding 16-17 fow. I've had luck with slip bobbered fatheads near the bottom and jigging spoons tipped with a minnow (as stated in previous reports).
The whole edge of the big gravel pit (out from the swim beach) is basically in the 12-20 fow range or so. What's key is finding areas that are holding fish or at least have them cruising through. Some areas can be very good but others are almost devoid of fish.
I'd recommend finding at least some fish before setting up shop on the ice. Good luck!
I fished the swim beach on saturday. FishinBuds right.......walked around for a little while vexing different spots till I found some fish.....We (four of us) ended up catch 10 bows in five hours. Slip bobber, Fatheads on ratsos.
