I have no clue since I've never ice fished before this year and never paid attention before. But I guess before March 15 judging by my memory of past temps.

If I remember right, Chatfield is usually open for at least 3 or 4 weeks before the walleye spawn nets go up.

That would be right around March 15 (the nets go up April 15).

I'd rather be over the ice then under it...

I'm with Phil, no clue as I never iced much before this year. Actually, I've never iced a local lake, but hope to this weekend. Wouldn't mind an unusually long and cold winter to ensure that ice sticks around, but I'm itching for spring already...

It will be before 3-15 I'm betting. We just need some of those warm Chinook winds that show up every year in the last half of February and early March.

Actually, the nets go out on March 15 and they'll keep them out until April 15 or bring them in sooner if they reach their quota.

OK - then my guess would be February 15 (I just know I usually have the boat out before the nets go up and I get upset every year because I can't fish the dam!)

I think the melt in the metro area is going to start next week...Sunday is supposed to be 52 degrees.

I drove by Cherry Creek to and from work for about 10 years. It was almost always ice free by the last day of February. I kept track so I could go fish from the dam before the nets went in on 3/15.

I am really hoping the ice melts earlier. I think the last time I went fishing was the first week of December. Pretty soon I am going to go crazy. I even ordered a pontoon boat (even though I won't be able to use it any time time soon) just to get my mind off this depressing time of no fishing.

As soon as the ice melts and I am allowed to take boat at Chatfield or Aurora, I will be there.

I'm in the same boat as you Mike, well sorta - I got one of those creek company pontoons in November when they had that big sale. Can't wait to get it out and on the water.
