Default Fishing Tip of the Day 2/5

The end of your fishing line frequently gets nicked, cut, and frayed. Periodically cut off the last two to three feet of line and retie your knots to avoid that big one from getting away.

Agree, also always check your knots after catching a fish (or rock, or stick, etc...)

Learning how to tie good knots is very important.

For flies I have gotten used to check them often...when using small tippet, even 5x, after a few nice browns knaw on it, usually time to re-tie. I've lost a ton of flies to small fish like that even.

When checking your line for flaws, actually run the last 6 ft. or so between your thumb and forefinger -- you'd be surprised how much better you can spot nicks and frayed spots by feel, rather than by eye. Any time you feel the slightest rough spot, cut it off, it shouldn't be there.
