Default Catfish rigs.

I'm going to try this rig this year while fishing for cats. if done right, it will increase your casting distance.

Will be useful in places like chatfield and pueblo.... and I'm also going to try to fish for lakers using catfish rigs and big water gear at Jefferson.

I was looking on a topo map, and that lake's south side drops off very deep.... If i was able to cast out about 300 feet, i would be in 120 feet of water, prime laker real estate when they finally decide that the shallows suck.

I looked into that rig last summer but I petered out of trying due to lazyness. I gotta surf rod with a 4 oz weight and a rather large reel that is hand polished and casts smoother than silk. It gets er out there plenty far. Besides most of the action i get into is in 2-3' of water right on the shore

Alas Im sure you are wanting to use this rig at Keystone. Perhaps it would do you well out there...I do not have the answer at this time

I've got bank sinker molds that I use to make the exact same weights - anywhere from 1/2 oz to 5 oz. Usually, with cats, I rig one of two ways....either tie a bank sinker like the one in the picture on the bottom and loop to loop snelled hooks on the line above, or I use a leader with an egg sinker above a swivel.

Both work for me!

Gotta try something....I would have had big fish if it wasn't for the fish going for their natural instinct of running the bait into the rocks.

I'll sit up for days rigging stuff up if it means big fish.

Fishing off the bottom, I catch most of my cats with no weight at all. Just a short lob out using my baits as the weight...Oftentimes a short lob up the edge of the bank. Very rarely fishing more than twenty feet off shore and more often ten to fifteen feet. I could see a heavy rig in heavy current in a river.
