Default Who Keeps a Fishing Diary?

I was thinking about getting a day planner to use as a fishing diary log. I would put in the date, lake, time, temp, fish caught, ect. Do any of you keep such a book? Is this a good idea?

Yep, but I don't call it a diary - lol. It's just my Fishing Log.

I'd like to actually put something nice together though, maybe add pictures and stuff to it, thought it might be useful for future fishing, or for my kids to look at when their older.

I do. I keep track of location, fish caught, bites, lure, time of day, and lots more.

I use google calender so I never mis-place it. Its always on the internet. ez to update and will never get wet.

I always meant to start one, but never did, and now I'm too old to remember how to write.

Yep - I think it's a great idea! I record basics like you mentioned (time, day, place, air and water temps) and then as much detail as time, enthusiasm or help from my kids allows

If the fishing is good or we are gone on long trips I don't do as well at keeping track of everything, but a day at local lakes usually has every detail recorded from time started, time finished, who was with me, activities besides fishing involved or not (like pulling the kids on the tube, picnic) and fish caught including species, size, location, depth, time, technique used, etc. I try to record details like which colors used (both jig and tails) and jig weight and not just that I was jigging.

I also add in details about the fish I didn't catch or see....what methods and locations were used that day and for about how long, weather changes before or after that may have affected the fishing. I also try to note approximate hours on electric trolling motor and big motor usage. I am almost always in the boat now and am good about getting basics down then - we do a little shore fishing and stream fishing up high that I have not been as consistent about recording, but I intend to improve on that this year.

Like I said, I don't always get all of this down, but I like to include as much as I can. I find it educational and fun to refer back to my notes.

I was going to start a fishing blog type thing and record what happened each time I went fishing, where I went, the weather, what i used and what I caught but i didnt get to fish as much as i wanted to last year thanks to working 80 hour weeks.

I did a similar thing 2 years ago with snowboarding, it included new tricks learned, where i went, what I landed, conditions, injuries. That went pretty well.

I also did a food/restaurant/cool sights thing from when I travelled every week. People loved that one. I would LOVE to do this for a job, kind of like a travel channel type thing ala diners drive ins and dives.
