Default Horsetooth Ramps

Yesterday, got all psyched to put boat on the 'Tooth for the 1st time this year. Called Larimer Co Parks to check status of ramps. Mistake. I was told by Bellvue staff that Santanka north end ramp was open. Sort of. The ramp is open, but portable dock is not in place. Teensy bit of info left out of ramp info was that you may be able to launch, but you won't leave the cove as there is solid cover sealing off to main body of lake. I checked conditions on south end and found southern 1/3 of lake is solid ice cap. Most west cove areas iced and ice flows everywhere pushed by wind. I did not get to the inlet ramp, but same as north end, solid ice cap to main body. Sorry report is lengthy, but at 3.10/gal fuel prices, I just wanted to let CF'ers planning to drive up any time soon not to trust phone call to Parks and Open Space.

I drove across the whole east side of the lake this morning. It is now wide open from the north end all the way to Dixon dam. Plenty of open water for a boat now. If the lake just warms up a bit and turns over, we will be in business. The smallies should about be in pre spawn by now.

Jay It looked to me like the were not in the water yet. I did not drive across the north dam to check it out though. Hard to tell from the county road.

No docks yet. About 40% ice covered but its shrinking fast. Only Satanka ramp is useable. Level is at summer pool. Good luck! CL
