Default I'm now a convert to baitcasters...

for the first time in the 19 years of fishing, I finally went and bought a baitcasting reel (ambassadeur 5000) and was won over by it's effectiveness in casting distance after a few bird's nests from figuring out how to cast the thing.

Awesome news, glad to hear that you are enjoying using a casting reel.

They are so much more fun to use compared to a spinning set up.

Don't get me wrong, ill never abandon my spincast setups....

baitcasters just seem like they would work great for places where distance is key...

I agree don't get rid of the others, you will still use them religiously. When you have to cast a light jig the baitcaster doesn't work.

Anyway welcome to the club.....

Got into baitcasters myself while ocean fishing in CA. Was amazed to discover that I could outcast my surf spinning setups from the beach with a baitcaster. Really helped when fishing for leopard sharks and big rays since the baitcasters had a clicker for freespool baiting. I was also suprised that most of the distance casting world record holders throw with baitcasters as well, if I remember right...in excess of 800feet is possible. On the east coast this is a big deal surf casting for stripers.....throwing 8 and bait. as in 8oz. sinker and bait. Crazy stuff!!!
I thought I was doing good casting 100 to 130 yards from the beach with a 9' Seeker and Daiwa sealineX with 20# P-line.

Also get yourself a low profile baitcaster with a flipping switch. They are invaluable for pulling bottom bouncer's and slabbing. With the flipping swich on, you can just punch the thumb bar and release line to get to the bottom and it will automatically reengage the reel when you release the thumb bar!.
