Default Spin Fishing for Salmon

Hey everyone!!!

Had a couple questions. I am wanting to catch my 1st Koke this upcomming weekend.

I DO NOT want to go snagging, I want to actually catch some.(or atleast 1, LOL)

I am gunna be bringing a friend of mine who does not fish much and has also never caught a salmon. We are gunna have standard spin fishing gear.

My question is what are the best lures to use, and what size is best?(I have heard anything Pink)

What type or retreive?

Also wondering where to go?

I have seen many good reports from Cheeseman and am thinking of trying it out, where else might be good? I live in the Littleton area.

Thanks in advance for any info you will supply.

And if your info is private and you still feel i am worthy then just PM ME , I will take the info to the grave (besides telling my friend that is comming with me)

I know I am asking for allot of info but I am really wanting to add a new species to my list. And since I have never target them before i really need help.

Try some spoons...nothing too big (nothing bigger than 3/8oz) Pinks!

Also try some Kastmasters in silver w/ orange stripe.

Thanks for the info Kodiak... I had seen on that other post that the Kasty worked and was wondering what the weight was. I am suprised that no one else has helped me out on this.

I am trying to do the "Right" thing here and catch them in a sporting fashon. NOT SNAGGING.

I've never fished for spawning salmon out here. But in Lake MI I used to use a black jig head with a small piece of shrimp, and bluefox inline spinners really slow along the bottom. I also caught a few on rip sink technique with chart/nickle little cleos, and big chart/firetiger thundersticks.
Out here I imagine it would be in your best interest to bring your ultralight setup and walk troll, or cast and drift sanjuan worms or egg patterns (fly) under a bubble, small bobber, or strike indicator.
Hope this helps.

I'm not a kokanee fisherman, so I can't help much. The run at Green Mtn has started and those fish will hit a fly/lure and the same is true of the Blue Mesa/Gunnison area.

If I had any specifics, I would certainly help someone who wants to take them in a sporting fashion.
