Default car/suv rod holder

Some time ago I asked you all for suggestions re: car rod holder. Was getting tired of breaking down the rods if I was moving from place to place.

Recently I bought a Thule ski rack and it's the ticket for carrying rods. Place the rods in like skis, with the reel end toward the front of the car/suv. Tehy lock in place, the rack has a locking device too. Sweet. I bought the rack and had it installed for an out the door price of $130.

I keep the reels covered with a "reel sock" ... just a habit someone taught me.

I've used this new rack about 5 times and have logged 300 miles with the poles up top. Not an issue.

Thought I would share

Nice, I have one of those expandable hard cases that can hold four rods. I have to bungee it to the roof rack or toss it in the back of my truck, your set up seems easier.
The monster fish you lost at the hole yesterday and the hot chick that was hitting on you at the bar other night have a lot in common... Not a picture of one of them.

I used to use one of those clamp down ski racks to put our rods in, but only for short distances. Later, I started thinking about the cost if the rod or reel got damaged by rocks, etc (have you seen car windshields) that I decided it wasn't worth it to me. My rods actually will fit into my SUV (explorer) completely set up, with the tip sticking out by my rear view mirror. Usually I have a big rubbermaid box with my gear in it in the back, and the reel end sits in it to hold it in place. Has worked very well and is just as quick, if not quicker, to do that the car top rack for me.
