Default Let's Abolish The State Park System

So what do you think? Cut the red tape, abolish the politics between the State Parks System and the Colorado Division of Wildlife and make it one agency.

Call it the Colorado Game and Parks Commission.

Boat registration fees go to the same place. Game wardens actually trained in law enforcement manage "ranger" law enforcement duties. Dingle Jonson funds still get used by one entity, with less restrictions. More power and resources for applying for grants. Less government, less politics, and less allocation of money between agencies.

No more nickel and diming (pay $3 here to access the water in a reservoir, pay $20 there for "walk in access", pay $5 here for a habitat stamp, pay $10 there for access to lake whatever). One fee for access to all DOW and State Park Properties.

One place - one stop shop with the power to apply for grants jointly and manage our resources jointly without the political B.S. that's going on currently and the "allocation of funds" nonsense that's going on currently.

I vote "no".

I don't want the Chatfield bycyclists to have a voice in how current DOW funds and license dollars are spent.

That's a good point....but at the same time, and in thinking about this before I posted it, the system appears to be working in other states.

An example is the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

I don't know about other states. I do know we already have enough problems with non-sportsman messing with the DOW by means of the types of commissioners appointed. I don't want another non-sportsman constituency involved.

I like our State Parks System. I have used systems in Texas, Okla. and Kansas and the ones I used do not compare to Colorado.

Technically speaking, the Dow and the State Parks fall under The Department of Natural Resources.

Funding for each, however, are completly different.

I think there needs to be a full blown audit of the State Parks. They are as wastefull of state and GOCO monies than anyone, but they are always looking for a way to raise our fees without much trouble or accountability from anyone!

I just wish they would get the DOW out from under the Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee so they can stop screwing the Sportsmen and women in this state.

I vote we start a guild. in the medieval times, people would do this to enhance their influence and power... kind of like a union except for all the corruption and internal beef. We could be the Colorado fisherman's guild, and have branches for whatever respective fish we catch. we pay an annual fee that's low like 10 dollars and the money would go towards the direct betterment of colorado's fisheries.

I am dead serious about this.
