Default New draft zebra mussel boat inspection regulations are out!!

Fellow anglers! Now is the time for us to speak up to the Colorado Parks Department about boat inspection procedures and what will apparently be drastically reduced launch windows at most Colorado waters this year.

Here is a link to the draft inspection regulations and the Parks Dept. page concerning them. http://parks.state.co.us/...g/NewBoatInspection/ I just received this info late today and haven't analyzed the proposed regulations in detail yet, but at first glance they look to be pretty onerous if you fish more than one water much, or if you take your boat out of state. They will be voted on February 20 so please review them and make your opinions known to the Parks Board before then.

It also looks like most waters will be limiting the hours we can launch any watercraft. Larimer County Parks is proposing no launches before 6:00 AM or after 10:00 PM. Lots of us like to be on the water way before 6:00 AM, so speak up or the pleasure boaters will get their way and we'll be hosed!

This is something we all need to be vocal about!!

Just sent a note to Rob to ask for inspections to start at 5am. If enough notes get to him we stand a better chance of getting it done. It only took a minute. Let's get together on this one!

Quote:
#805 Impoundment
Is complying with the authorized agents and inspectors have a reasonable belief that
the conveyance may contain aquatic nuisance species but decontamination
equipment or personnel is not immediately available, or if the equipment on the
vessel necessary to properly decontaminate isn’t functioning, then the conveyance
may be held for a maximum of 48 hours to ensure proper decontamination

So they can impound your boat for 48 hours if they don't staff enough people and they think your boat is contaminated.  Wow.

It doesn't mention anything about what waters will be affected either...dang.

The net effect of all this will be to take some of the fun out of boating/fishing. I can almost predict boat registrations will be down this year and they will start complaining they don't have as much money coming in. Which will necessitate further cuts and more inconveniences for everyone. Vicious cycle IMO.

Gonna put alot more pressure on unregulated waters as people look for alternatives.

I chimed in for the 5:00 am start. What about the procedure list that states if boat is thought to be contaminated "call law enforcement personel"! What's up with that?

I believe that's only if it is in a boat bait well. Not a minnow bucket which will still be in the back of my truck!

A boat inspector cannot impound your boat....only a law enforcement person can. That was from the discussion I had with Rob last Friday (my concern is someone with no law enforcement experience impounding a boat with no recourse to the owner). That's the reason they call law enforcement.
