The best tackle store bait shops you have ever been in...

I need some help guys and gals...I am doing this for a friend who is looking for some leads on marketing a product...

What is the best tackle store/bait shop you have been in both locally and nation wide/world wide. I need to know the name, where located and what makes it one of the best you have seen.

You can give more than one answer. Too much information is encouraged!

Its hard to pick just one place as the "best"

I do most of my tackle shopping at Thornton Gander or Sportsmans or BPS.. But there is a bait shop in Wisconsin that I have been to a few times that I really like! ...They don't have the variety that BPS does or the low prices that the big chain stores do but the owner isn't scared to tell you where to go or what to use!

Hey Z, I think you know the name but I've always liked to get minnows at that baitshop on 58th & Washington. They've pointed me in the direction of fish before and are usually pretty generous with their description of "1 dozen".

The best bait shops I've been in have been in Nebraska and Iowa. I liked them due to the ginormus selection of live baits.........minnows (lrg-med-sml), chubs, suckers, shad(2 1/2"), crawdads, salamanders, bluegills, frogs, grasshoppers, crickets, crawlers, leeches, and a variety of wax and meal worms.(probably missing some) The other thing I liked was the huge selection of lures and tackle. Having a "bargain bin" section of some kind is always attractive too.

Also.........I have been in run down shack bait-houses that have some of the best crawlers and most knowledgable and freindly information..................without all the bells and whistles. So of course...........a friendly and knowledgable staff is also key.

Lastly..........these days it is tough to find a good reel/rod repair man.........I think having a good fishing "mechanic" at the store would bring in extra business..........to this day I think people would rather have their stuff fixed locally as opposed to shipping and waiting.

I've given this some thought with all the variables due to different regulations in different areas.

For example - some areas permit minnows and live bait and others are flys and lures only .

For zeroing in on their specific area and what flies or lures are working and their recent knowledge of what lake or stream is hot or not .... I'd have to say .... the West Laramie Fly Store in Laramie , WY.

For the most depth of variety of fishing gear of all types I'd have to say the Cabela's in Sidney , NB. If they don't have it you probably don't need it.

I'm a bit partial to Bennetts Tackle in Berthoud simply because Bob can provide info on nearly any and all that going on at mearly anytime! And his plastics and old school rods..........
