Maybe a better title for this thread is Skinny Pike.
Spinney is probably my favorite fishing hole in Colorado. The pike can be a real kick in the pants to catch. However, for the approx. 200+ pike my father and I boated this summer less than 6 ran larger than 30 in. Maybe we aren't quite targeting the hogs properly?
Here is my question to the community here. What do you think of a mandate for removing all pike caught under 24 in and possibly a slot limit for the larger fish?
It seems to me that the pike have great sucess reproducing in Spinney, however many of them are not large enough to find adequate food (ie small fish) to eat. I've caught many pike on beadheads and scuds. This tells me that they might be directly competing with the trout for food.
Is it possible to make both the trout fishing and pike fishing better at the same time?
