Default what do you see? (fishfinder)

here's a pic I shot of my fishfinder, lets talk about what you can tell from it...

Looks like bait fish and other fish maybe wiper? I was at pueblo yesterday on the west end. I saw a bunch of fish on the finder but couldnt get them to bite. Got one, and it was a big crappie.

what do you see?

From the length of those arches, I am guessing that you were not moving. Since you did get one crappie, it could be that you were over a school of crappie suspended 16+ feet below the surface.

Looks like a pretty soft bottom, probably sand, quite a few fish from 15-40 ft, my guess would be shad but they could really be anything. Were you watching your jigs on the sonar? If so, were the fish responding to your jig at all?

I read that you can see your jig on the fish finder and I have never really used it to see if fish respond. Maybe I should? I just locate fish and fish them, never really watched to see the jig etc..

True, Shad or Carp would be my guess. As Don said, the thinner bottom line suggests a softer bottom. The blue stuff that goes up to 10 feet off bottom, could be small bait fish. Did you see that at other locations? If you didn't, then the blue might be small shad, and then the arches could be wipers...

Or, the blue stuff could be run off water that is a little colder (more dense) than the surface water, carrying runoff sediment. Most of the arches are above the blue... hummm.

It would take a lot of images to really build a better picture, in the end its usually just a guess. well, unless you have a camera like Zman.
