Default Laker fishing big blue

I know the laker guys are secretive...but I am not asking for any spots...just general information...mainly depth. What depth do you think the lakers are hanging at in mid May? I am thinking about fishing it this weekend.

I don't get to fish Blue Mesa a lot (unfortunately), but wanna get my dad (and myself) into some laker action. I never fish for lakers because I don't have anywhere nearby where I can do it.

I think I have a good idea of what lures/jigs to use, but not location information. Ya think they are hanging out < or > 30FOW at this time of year? Anyone fish for lakers regularly?

Oh....and I forgot to mention this. I am a nearly 100% catch and release fisherman. If I got into any big lakers (thats a big IF ), then they would be released.

PMs are welcome.

They are having a tournament this weekend so the lake will be pretty busy, I think the enter 120 teams or so. When you add that to the regular lake pressure, it should be hopping this weekend.

And only one ramp open if I remember right, together with mandatory mussel inspections. It should be a real circus.

Yeah I know I have a couple buddies fishing in that tourny. I know that most of the teams are going to be fishing the east end of the lake by the inlet...most likely...because that's where you can hook into nice browns.

I don't think lakers count for that tourny though (except maybe a big fish pot)....so I figure we will be fishing a little further West....where it will be less crowded.

Man I am glad I asked. If there is only one boat ramp open, then screw blue mesa this weekend....

They also have a laker category, it is a separate buy in though. Yeah, one ramp and 100-200 boats, last guy in line should hit the water by noon

Lake Fork has been the only ramp open, I think. But maybe they'll open Elk Creek, too. They have blocked off middle bridge, Iola and every other place else a person could launch.

Usually, the tourny starts at Elk Creek ramp. Maybe they will have two ramps open...I guess ill have to call someone over there. Thanks for bringing up the possibility though...I didn't even think of that.

Kyle

Found this on the Curecanti National Recreation (Blue Mesa) site.

SATELLITE BOAT RAMP CLOSURE
Beginning immediately, satellite ramps, such as Dillon Pinnacles, Ponderosa, Wilson's Landing and the Wind Surfing Area, will be closed to launching and retrieving of motorized watercraft. Iola boat ramp will close when Stevens Creek campground reopens in May. By mid-May, the only launch areas will be Elk Creek Marina, Lake Fork Marina and Stevens Creek Campground.
