Default July 4th weekend...Blue Mesa or Grand Mesa

I am heading up to the Grand Junction area over the July 4th weekend and am torn between Blue Mesa and Grand Mesa to fish. I have never fished either and will be fishing from shore.
I did some searches on both and it seems like all the reports are from boaters, any shore fishing to be had at either? and which would be better?

Thanks,

Aaron

Or if anyone has a suggestion of some good hike in lake that I could camp at that would be better, I am definitly open to suggestions.

I fish both alot. From shore you'd be better off with Grand Mesa. There are over 200 lakes with fish up there, get a Grand Mesa Fishing Guide from your nearest DOW office and find a back country cutt/brookie lake. Or go to a drive in lake like Cottonwood Lake #1 and bring flies and a bubble for lots of stockers and a chance at brookies and cutts. Lots of the cutt lakes are only a mile or two hike. That beats the hotter Blue Mesa and the crowds. Bring lots of Cutter as the skeeters are big!

HaHa, that sounds like a ploy to me. LOL!

Dont worry I am a catch & release guy and clean up after myself and others when I go out.

It is usually quite a zoo up there on the 4th. If you plan on fishing it more than once ever, definitely pick up a copy of "Fishing the Grand Mesa" great book. I have one in each of my vehicles. Way to many lakes to mention, but the book will get you on fish. I will be up there this weekend for grayling and cutt's

Nice. I have heard of that book and may pick one up. I live in Denver and usually dont travel that far for fishing. I may head the other direction and go to some warm water fishing.

Thanks for the info, I do appreciate it.

Plugging my favorite fish guide.. Colorado Fishing Guide and Atlas appears to have the entire Fishing the Grand Mesa book in it as well as the Close to Home one..

http://www.amazon.com/Colorado-Fishi...4681446&sr=1-1

You can look at anything you want online at Amazon.. p124 is the start of the Grand Mesa section. I got mine at Borders.

Too bad the info is so out of date. They list multiple lakes with species that were there before the drought, but they are not there now.

Good guide to find some mud holes though

Is the atlas out of date compared to the Fishing the Grand Mesa book?
