Default Trailer light help please??

so i bought a new boat for the season and everything is fine except the dam trailer lights. all of the lights work fine untill i turn on my headlamps..after i do that none of the trailer lights work but the truck lights work fine. if the switch is off then all my lights work..iv tried grounding in a few different places, checked all my poles from the truck(and it shows power at all of those), and checked all my fuses(which were all fine too)..has anyone ever had this problem before? any help would be greatly appreciated..i just cant figure out what the hell is going on.

Assume it is only happening with the truck lights or parking lights on. I suspect the trailers hot wire that feeds the running lights is frayed somewhere in the trailer. When you turn on the truck lights it powers the trailer running lights and gets grounded to the trailer immediately.

I would agree with LindyRigger on this one.. A whole NEW light kit from Walmart/Harbor Freight is cheap enough to just replace the whole kit and not waste your time chasing an electrical demon

find another tow vehicle to hook the trailer to and see if the problem still exists...
electrical problems are a product of elimination, if there is a problem on the trailer side just unplug every single light turn on your headlights then start hooking up the lights one by one until you find the light that is the issue..
does this problem also kill the turn/brake light?? or just the running lights??

Great advice on this post, should have it covered. I wouldn't have thought of trying another tow vehicle to eliminate that whole side of the equation but of course that is really simple and and will immediately localize your problem to either your Ranger or the trailer. If you just recently had a short "fixed" on your truck you may still have a problem related to that.
