Default Boat Registration Assistance Request: Sears Gamefisher Jon Boat

I recently received (free to me from a family friend) an old Sears Gamefisher Al Jon Boat, with oars, electric trolling motor and an old Ted Williams model gas outboard. So, I guess the money pit has started with my first boat! I suppose the next happiest day is supposed to be when I sell it!

I submitted my registration request to the Colorado State Parks department, but received a letter back requesting the hull ID and the year of manufacture.

I believe I found the hull ID riveted onto the stern.

As for the year it was manufactured, there is no clear indication. I was thinking in the first photo below that the first two digits of the model may be the year of manufacture?

Here are photos of the only other literature on the boat:

The only other thought I have is to see if the Parks Dept. can look up the manufacture date via the previous registration decal:

I know El Paso County has one of these boats, so if you are out there EPC and know the answers - I am all ears!

One last question, are there any good rod holder mounts for Jon boats?

Thanks for the help.

With the hull ID number State Parks should be able to look up date of manufacture, I believe. Have you Googled it? There are lots of these boats out there. You can't be the only person with this question.....

Since it appears to have been registered in Colorado. They should be able to look up the previous registration. You may need a bill of sale...even though you got it for free...to show transfer of ownership.

The easiest way would probably be to just hook her up and drive on down to the DOW office. They should be able to do the inspection on the spot. Most Toon owners that put electric motors on their boats have to bring the toon in for inspection... I'd call first.

On my boat the last 2 digits are the year it was made . It looks like 82' was the manufacture date if that is true for your boat as well. Hope that helps.

Yep, that's what I was going to say as well.

My first boat was an '89 Sea Nymph and it was a solid little boat -- didn't leak a drop! I think the repeated comments about boats being a money pit are overrated. Like any other vehicle, you will need to maintain it to prevent major expenditures in the future and there are costs associated with that. Much of the money that you pour into it is related to making improvements or adjustments to suit your fishing needs which is not unlike spending $$ on new fishing equipment. I've owned three boats and, without exception, I always missed certain aspects of my old boat and never felt I was getting rid of something that was a burden to me. Small boats like yours can take you places that the big boats can't and they have a whole convenience factor that you miss when you upgrade to something bigger.

Enjoy your boat!
