Default Post your Catfish - Carp Bait Recipes

After catching a lot of small fish (mostly trout) this summer, I would like to go after some extra large bottom feeders. When I was a teen I know I used to mix up some recipes that really worked but do not know what happened to them.

Can anyone post some of their recipes?

Catfish: cut a fish up into chunks. Put them on a hook.
Carp: catch or buy some nightcrawlers. Put them on a hook.

Hope that helps.

I personally would stick with cut bait for cats. Bluegill, Sucker, Carp, and Shad are all good depending on what they are feeding on. I have heard good things about shrimp as well. You can look up all different kinds of recipes online. Good luck.

Carp Dough...

two slices of bread, made into crumbs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
mix it up and add flour to stiffen to your likening. Use on a light rig and expose no part of the hook, any tension on the line initially will spook fish.....unless it's a hair rig, and it'll set the hook on it's own.

Thank you everyone for all the input. I am new to this forum and it is great to know there are some helpful buds here.

I found this link and with all kinds of stuff for catfish baits. The most common was chicken gizzards, garlic and shrimp.

I made about 12 different experimental mixtures based on adding various things to a base of blended chicken livers, flour and corn meal. Some of the additional items include garlic, strawberry jello, vanilla extract, peanut butter, anise extract. I also am trying various mixtures of these in small plastic containers. We will see which gets the big cat. It looks like each will sit in the garage "aging" for another week before I can get out to the lake again.

Well..you take a bucketful of steam
And a dozen rooster eggs
And you mix 'em up gently with a bushel full of goldfish legs
And ya hang 'em on a sky hook in the midnight sun
Mmm and then you fry them until they're done.
