Default Local Denver Rod Builders

Hey folks,
I've seen there is a member here who spins up his own rods and does some very nice work. I'm in the market for a somewhat unique rod that I haven't seen on the market place. I want to have a 30 lb travel spinning rod built. The ones I've seen on the market I've found to be way too heavy and horribly clunky. The blank I have in mind is a 7'6" 3 piece rated from 15-40 lb ... perfect. Thing is, I don't really know of anybody that makes rods in Denver.

Can anybody recommend a rod builder in the Denver area? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Dogwood

PM Koldkut. Though he may not live in Denver, he commutes to the springs all the time. Shipping is cheap. The man does exceptional work and Im' very happy with my one custom that I have.

Rob

Yeah Im not sure they make anything that big in 3 piece for a reason. I wouldnt want to hook up on a 20lb saltwater fish with a 3 piece rod, I could see it just imploding at the second ferrule (or whatever its called). I have a 7'6" 2 piece saltstriker inshore rod that seems fairly strong, but ive never caught anything huge on it except for a big cat at sutherland that put a hurting on it. It was only around 12lbs .

Jeff Looney builds rods, too. He's in Lakewood.

Girons custom rods is located in Denver, as is Galaxy custom rods. Jeff Looney, a forum member here(FishinLooney) also builds rods in the Denver area.

What blank are you referring to?

They could build a 5 piece rod, and as long as it's from a reputable rod manufacture, I'd trust it all the way to it's rating. Look at all the big 4 piece 10 wt fly rods.

Fistfullafish ... I understand your concerns (I share them as well), but the travel rod market is starting to expand a bit. Seems most of the S/W guys would rather travel with their 1 pc rods. I find 7-8 ft rod tubes to be cumbersome. I've heard some information regarding this particular blank that it can take the abuse, so I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks for your inputs.

Koldkut,
Thanks for the inputs as well. The rod blank is a Jaws 3-761540 ... don't know if you're familiar with them or not. Might also use a Batson Rainshadow SWT 40SWT70H, though I'm leaning toward the Jaws for the extra 6". BTW, I've seen your posts here and admire your work. I'll check out the gentlemen you have suggested as well. Thanks for your time. Might you be available for the job?

Best regards,
Scott

I might...depends on how soon you want it done, I'm very freelance with my schedule, I don't build if I don't feel like it, I only put out good work that way and I don't want to get burned out, afterall, it is more of a hobby for me.

I've used a koldkut rod, they are great.

the dude who runs bennett's bait and tackle in berthoud (a 30 mile drive north) makes some sick rods as well.
