Default Fishing at HohnHolz Lake

A buddy and I went to HohnHolz #3 last Friday (17th) and had some success. We caught 6 between us and we each kept 2. We caught BWNs that were 12-14in. The ice was 22 inches thick. The weather was windy but not terrible.
The road in is not great: The rancher is NOT plowing the road pass his first pasture, so after you go down the little hill and start up toward the big left turn to head toward the parking lot, there are major snow drifts. The parking lot had about 10inches of snow in it!
We drove in with a 4X4 Toyota Land Cruiser with big tires...and had chains and a shovel just in case. With any more snow, the fish will be safe for the winter. There was a good 4-6 inches of snow on top of the let's hope it doesn't winter kill.

Nice that you got in there. I went to #2 earlier in the winter. I am curious about the taste of those from #3. I kept a couple a few years ago and they tasted so bad that I couldn't eat them. Trust me, I can eat most things. But in the winter, the cows aren't [email protected] directly in the water; so, maybe they are better eating. Never heard of winter kill on #3. It could happen I guess - it is fairly deep in the middle.

The browns were nice and pink but I haven't eaten them yet...and as you say-- let's hope no cows died in the water, etc... I couple of years ago there was a dead cow in the water and the crawdads were having a FIELD-DAY!!
