Default Gizzard Shad Question????

I was out at ST. Vrain on Saturday morning and i hooked a fish that i later on found out was a Gizzard Shad. I am a new fisherman and i was wanting to know if it was common for these fish to be 18" inches long? mine was 18" 2lbs i have a pic as well. The perosn i was with said they had never seen one that big.

They get big down at Pueblo-I have seen alot form 12-15". But 18" is an especially large one.
