Default Please help me buy my next deep cycle battery...

I'm ready to part with Wal-Mart's Everstart!

Has technology advanced on deep cycles where you can get a battery with little to no memory?

Or, will I be in the same "boat" with these:

Bass Pro XPS
Interstate
Optima
Cabela's AGM

Are there others to consider?

Since I troll a lot, here's my experience with the biggest Everstart batteries:

- first couple of trips I get 12 hours trolling time
- for a few months I get 8 hours trolling time
- 6 months later I get 6 hours trolling time
- the next fishing season I get 2-3 hours trolling time
(I do keep them charged & stored on my boat in the garage)

I went with Costco brand. Keep the receipt and you are good for 12 months.

Chris,
Your description of battery life sounds like improper maintenance and drawdown. You have built up a tolerance in your batteries. This is common in batteries of all types. Might I suggest you google deep cycle maintenance and usage.

I have done well with my Walmart Everstart after I combined it with a Ctek 3300 charger. Leave it plugged in anytime its not hooked up to the camper or the boat.

No, give your Everstarts a little more time & they'll give up on you too, even with plenty of TLC. I guess you get what you pay for at seventy bucks each. Catch any monster smallies yet?

Are you sure that your charger isn't the problem? May be cooking them?
I have personally not seen much differance in the life span of the four different battery brands i have used on my 24v system. I spent the big bucks on Optimas, Trogans, and Interstate, they lasted 3 seasons just like my last two sets of Walmart batteries.

I haveboth an Interstate and a Wallyworld deep-cycle for my troller.
Interstate came with the boat in April 2010. Wally is 2 years older. Both are charged on board with a XPS charger.

The interstate will last 8 hours in high winds, the Wally maybe 3 hours. They are comparable capacity.

Age, brand? Who knows-
