Default Not a Colorado lake, but has anybody ever fished Angostura?

Near Hot Springs, SD. Planning a family trip there in the dead of summer, mid July. Anybody ever fish it? Tips? I know it's a great smallie and walleye fishery. I've only driven by it a few dozen times, never stopped.

Will have a boat.

Thanks,

Rob

fished nit several years ago while on vacation. I was fishing from the shore though. I got my daughter onto her fish fish (bass) on a flyrod and couldn't get my rod back from her! Also caught a really nice crappie and some smaller bass.

I just stopped in at one of the shops in the area and asked for advice - folks were very friendly and helpful.

I have never fished Angostura. I have fished Pactola. It was 2000. I wasn't even a good Bass angler yet and caught some pretty nice bass from shore.

I would say that if you can catch bass here you should be able to there. If it's like most of the lake's in the Black Hills. It will be rocky and deep. Summer fish are generally going to hold in deepwater with easy access to shallow. I would imagine that the water will be clear like Atown. Topwater's on a cloudy day for a search lure. Sammy's and spooks to cover unfamilar water. DT 16 or Bandit 300 for getting a little deeper.

Don't forget Football jigs, shakey heads and the almighty dropshot. That covers the bass. Walleye?

My best advice trust your electronics. Cover water and if you find something you like slow down and fish it. Even in the dead of summer the Black Hills are pretty comfortable.

I will talk to my uncle he has fished there before.

It's not quite in the black hills, pretty much just outside of the where they start. Foothills of the black hills maybe...?

Not sure on depths yet.

Thanks for the tips.

Robert

If you get a chance go check out Sheridan Lake. Used to be an awesome pike fishery (numerous 30-40" pike per day). Haven't been to that area for years though so who knows how it is now?

Did you re-write your inquiry? Cause I sound way off, on the question above. I was half asleep, with big bass on the brain.
