Default Any Lake McConoughy info?

I'm headed to go camping with the family at Lake McConoughy. We're camping at Vans Lakeview camp site which is on the south side of Big Mac. Anybody have any info on what they're biting on. Thanks.

I would fish the dam at night and first thing at sunrise with jerkbaits. Also cutbait off the dam should be good for cats at night. Should be some big eyes coming off that dam at night right now.

Was there a couple weeks ago for the first time. We fished the dam dusk till 2:00 am. It was not exactly "hopping" but we did manage a few males on 4" Jerk baits. Also hooked (aka snagged) a few spawning females accidently and these were released immediately... but they were huge...8-12 lbs easy.

Quite a crowd. Not exactly my type of fishing but it was sort of fun to be fishing at 2:00 am...

Oh yea, bring a good headlamp...mine sucked. I had "headlamp envy" all weekend long.

If fishing from a boat during the day the vans area can be very productive. Local like to pitch white hairs jigs up shallow for walleye. I had great luck last year pulling crawler harness on lead core or by using inline weights above the trees just north of vans. An area that someone should never pass up is sandy point on the other side and just west of vans. You can drop jigs or lindy rig with leeches or crawlers. Drift with the wind and you should have a great time.

Anyone ever stay at Van's? I usually stay on the North side, but this upcoming holiday I'll be at Van's due to everything on the north side being booked.

Rowdy or fishing camp?

I've stayed at Van's 3 or 4 years in a row now. Not a bad place. I've never seen it loud or rowdy. I'm not a big fan of RV Parks, but as they go, this one isn't terrible.

Nice! I'll be up there for the Memorial Day holiday. In a black/white lund so say hi if you're out on the lake!
