Default New TM

Gonna treat myself to a new TM for my birthday (my old 55 lb Minn Kota All Terrain is 10+ yrs old and has lost power over the years).. Anyway I'm torn between the Edge 55 lb thrust and the Maxxum 55 lb thrust.

I've read some reviews where the maximizer on the Maxxum (that makes it run longer) has been the source of some problems but I like the idea of a variable speed and a longer run time.

Anyway, if anyone owns or has owned either unit, I'd be interested in opinions of each.

And before anybody tells me I should go with a 24 volt TM, my boat is only 14 ft and a 55 is plenty of power.

I won't say it then (24 volt comment). Both motors are supposedly great motors. The maxxum allegedly has the bugs worked out now.

Needless to say, I'm not a fan of anything Minn Kota that has a built-in transducer.

I'll agree, but only due to a limitation of it not reading surface temps. Stock ducer is still much more better than the built in ones that are usually only one frequency too.

IMO a built in transducer is one more thing that can go wrong, and when it dose and you have to have it repaired you are without both a trolling motor and a fishfinder
