Default Another reef in sail or tie a drogue to the side to control speed?

Last couple of time I had the boat out the wind was a bit more then I needed. My boat only has one reef point on the sail. I'm thinking about getting another sail made with more reefing points to depower the sail.
I could run a drogue off the side to adjust speed, but that would limit how many rods or down riggers I could fish with.
I can't pull a drogue as it effects steering. Even pulling lead core effects steering out the stern.
What to others use when trolling?

A motor boat?

Sorry Mike...just couldn't help myself. You are unique in your ability to troll and fish from your sail boat. I'm the type that has trouble chewing gum and walking at the same time...much credit to you...I know..no help here..

I think a trim tab would effect steering.
I'll ponder this some more.

drop a 5 gallon bucket attached to a rope with a few 1 inch holes drilled in the bottom behind the boat that will slow you down some.

If 2 tabs are used (mounted one on each side) the steering will be the same.
Obviously I have never driven a sail boat, may not even be possible.

Mike, I've got a drift sock you can have for a cup of coffee. Brand new, given to me but I never use it so its yours if you want it.
