Default Finally time for my first Yampa float!

Alright it is finally here. My little bro. and I decided to float the Yampa this coming Saturday and I have not slept for the past two weeks. I am excited.
We are going to float from Duffy Mountain to Juniper Canyon. Seems like we need to bring some tube jigs (brown) and black buzz baits. Probably a #6 holographic PM or 2 as well....

Has anyone fished this section of river in the past few days? Any other advice/input/recent reports?

hey there. something you might consider is the flow on that stretch is right around 200 cfs, which is pretty damn boney. a canoe can handle it, but some parts might not be too fun. if it continues to drop, you might want to consider shore fishing.

The flow is 250 - 300 right now and well below average still from years of drought. Still its doable though but you will scrape bottom in many areas. Please practice C and R on this river and my advice is not to disclose the areas you are fishing.

Thanks for the heads up. We have a canoe and I think we should be good...we will see.

Don't worry: we will practice C and R for sure! We just want to have some tight lines and great pictures.

I was going to float it this past Saturday, but wanted to make sure flows were appropriate before driving up there. I called Bucking Rainbow Outfitters and a Rafting Company that does trips on the lower Yampa and they both said it is too low to float in a boat, but you might be okay in a canoe, not sure. I didn't go because of the flows. I would hate to get up there and find out that you are walking your boat down the river most of the time. If you go please post a report on water level and if it affected you much. along with your fishing report. Good luck bro!

Thanks for the input. I might call that shop and see if they think I can float it in a canoe. Maybe a little rain this week will help?
We are going to be in Steamboat anyway so we will find some place to fish!

apprentice,
you have NO idea what is going on in the yampa. The fishery will remain despite removals...the removals are a joke and there are a ton of small pike and smallmouths, as well as the big ones. Quit saying things before you have the proper information about it.

Lol....I've got about a dozen friends that live right there..I know very well what is going on there from both sides of the fence. You make a few trips there a year..whatever floats your boat. I've lived here longer than you have been alive. I know you wanted to bait me..so I gave you your response you were looking for. All others will fall on deaf ears. You didn't even start fishing for Pike until a few years ago. Your brother told me you were scared of them.
Have a nice life and make the right choices.

Apprentice: you are entitled to your opinion and all but start your own thread- don't bogart mine.

TFB: I read today that the flows are at 235 CFS- do you think we can float in the canoe- and actually float?
