Default WonderBoner

we eat trout an average of twice a week and love it. i dont mind them so much but my wife hates the bones. i do a pretty good job of removing most of them but i miss a few every now and then. i seen this product at jax that claimes to remove all the bones in seconds. anyway i broke down and bought one figuring if it didnt satisfy my wife then i would take it back. seriosly though it does work as advertised and did a pretty good job of removing the bones from 3 uncooked trout which made for some excellent fried boneless fish. i am not saying that it is perfect but i can see where it would come in handy for making trout salad or other trout dishes where bones can be a problem. flame on but remember this is a family site.

Thanks! That's good info. For trout and kokes I usually fillet and leave the skin on, then pick out any bones on my own or cut them out (cutting takes meat away though). It's nice to hear it works. I may have to try one - especially if it saves time.

it is comes with extensions to make it longer and 3 different sizes of rings. i could see that fully extended with the largest attachement how they would call this the Big Boner. we are very satisfied with this product and it has brought a new level of happieness to our marriage i wish it were less expensive. $25 seems a lot for such a simple design but if you use it a lot it is worth it.

p.s. it works on any salmonoid species including kokes, and char.

This is going to sound bad, but my grandfather sent me out one earlier this year. I thought it was a joke. Haven't tried it yet, but glad to hear someone has and has had good success. On the few occasions I keep fish, they are usually fairly small brookies, so filleting never would work for me (hell, I can't fillet something big). My daughter also likes to eat trout, but she is always spitting out little bones and gets tired of it. I might have to try it this ice fishing season.

When I saw the topic I thought someone was trying to use my porn name. I looked as I was going to defend my good name. Turns out I was wrong. Thank goodness

Do you think it would work with the y-bones on pike?

Probably not, the y-bones are not attached to the main skeleton. But once you understand where the y-bones are, you can trim them out all at once in a strip of meat so thin you can see light through it.
