Need an outboard motor

I'm looking for a good, used 140 HP outboard motor. I have a chance to buy a nice little 16 foot fish/ski boat real cheap but it needs a motor. I don't want to a new one, that would cost more than what the boat is worth.
Thanks!

Re: Need an outboard motor

i am having REALLY good luck with vintage outboards, they have em ranging from 800 used to 3000 totally rebuilt. the guys (Jim and Pat) were both honest and have done some work for me, saved me over 400 what some of the other shops around charged to rebuild lower unit.

i would try them, i am going to buy a mercury 85 hp with new cmc tilt and trim new cables and controls, installed, for 3000.

i am not easily impressed, but they beat mercsa and more, crowley and auroura marine just to name a few i checked at.

no i dont work or own them either...laughing.

a bad day on the lake is better than a good day at work.

Do you have a phone number for them?* I looked online and couldn't find them.
Thanks.*
BTW,* What should I expect to pay for a used outboard of this size?

jmorton,
I am in the same search as you. I had a 16ft ski boat givin to me without the motor. They are not cheap! :o. I am looking for a 140 hp everything that I have found has been 1500- 3000 for a 15- 20 year old motor. I think I'm going to get rid of my boat because I can't afford to get power for it. good luck.

Have an ad for 135hp and boat, take both? Motor has tilt and trim, runs good.
