I have five bernie rods fitted with the same model abu garcia pro max reels on all of them. They work fantastic...except one. The reel's drag works fine. I can tighten it all the way down but line can be pulled out rather easily. I don't know much about these reels so I don't really know how to get in there to try and fix the problem. My question is, does anyone on here know the baitcaster reels enough to maybe take a look at it and see what the problem might be?
I am Def. no guru on fixing reels but i would assume that there are some crush washers that need to be replaced... That's just a guess though LOL
A place called "Gary's Reel Service" in Lakewood 720-253-7392 has been mentioned a couple times lately and referenced as a good place to get reels fixed. I have never used his services so I cant personally vouch for him.
Just a wild guess, but do you have braid on that reel? If yes, your drag is fine. Back the braid with a few yards of mono, or tape it to the spool to prevent the slipping. Ta da.
Well, that's about right for abu garcias! One out of five is a lemon. Try Gary's, I hear he does good work.
