I posted a couple pics on the 2018 bragging board....

I want to put up a full report rather than just throwing down random pics.... If I don't get to the report in the next couple days I'll just throw up the pics!

For me that was a big disappointment...

My Biggest was 6.48lbs and Luke's was 6.24lbs(We caught a few in the 6lb range)

However when we were in the Airport on the way to Phoenix from Mazatlan we saw Ish Monroe and Brent Ehrler and when we talked to them they said their biggest was 7lbs... So I don't feel so bad! LOL

Brent Ehrler - In Blue with arms crossed
Ish Monroe - In Black shirt holding backpack straps

The guy in the grey/white hat next to Ish was a Camera man not sure who the rest of the entourage is though.

Yeah, Ish and Brent spent a few days with our group. They were there for Daiwa bait testing. The two Japanese guys are with Daiwa.

Fishing was not great. I'd say it was the second worst trip I had been on. That said, in 5/2014 I did not catch a fish over 5lbs.

The numbers were good and fish up to 5lbs were not hard to come by with a 6 mixed in every now and then. I had a 7-12 on a #6 Fat Free Shad and an 8-04 on a football head. My wife had a 7-0 and a 7-08 on the Carolina rig. Biggest fish of the week from our group was a 9-02 on a chatterbait.

It was quite frustrating as they were changing daily. Quite a few fish were spawning.

I was worried for you as the numbers ProBass quoted you were quite optimistic. I think you said they told you 100+ fish a day with a 3-6lb average and fish up to 12lbs coming in. You were pretty jazzed so I didn't want to be a downer. Besides fishing could have been really good.

Hopefully, you will consider returning.

I figured those other guys were from some company or other photographers.

Glad to her you guys were able to break the 6lb mark!! Although I really wanted to get a DD by the end of the trip I was saying I'd be happy with an 8lber!!

Sucks they exaggerated the size of the average fish but I guess that's how they roll :/ Sure wish you would have said something!! I looked all over online to get info and nobody blew the whistle.

I will most likely never return to El Salto(unless I hit the powerball or something) Unfortunately that trip was a trip of a lifetime for me.. If I save up enough money for another trip it'll prob. be for Peacock Bass in Brazil or something like that.

The fact of the matter is a 8lber is a good fish down there. I'd say, based on my experience, you can get an 8 maybe 70-80% of your trips. I'd say 9s are about 30-40% and you are lucky to get a 10 maybe 10%. I know very good fishermen who have been 10+ times down there and have yet to catch a 10. That said, it does have one of the best big fish populations in the world.

Sadly when they put up numbers like that and you have those expectations you are pretty much guaranteed to be disappointed. All the lodges like to make you think 10s will jump in the boat. At the end of the day, it is bass fishing and sometimes it is good and sometimes not. Had my May 2014 trip been my first I probably would not have gone back.

Did you most fish deep? shallow? Did you have the same guide the whole time?

We tried deep and shallow... 3 of my 6lbrs came from the same area... and 2 of those were suspended in 30ft of water. Luke got a 6lber on topwater... The last day we mostly tried deeper areas with bigger baits and only managed a couple small fish.

We had the same guide the entire time... we could have switched but they said he was there best local guide(Gringo guide cost more) and we also did not want to start over on figuring out the bite with a new guide. I think we made the right call on that but will never know lol.
