Default BOATERS NEEDED - June 15th - 8th annual Ft. Carson Kids Fishing Day

Posting on behalf of Tom Grace.
It's a great event, and a great way to give back to our service men and women. Here's the 411.

From Tom:

Please mark your calendars and volunteer your time and boat for a few hours on June 15th at Pueblo Reservoir for our 8th annual Ft. Carson Kids Fishing Day.

This has become a big deal for the kids and families. As a THANK YOU to our troops and families we offer our time, expertise and boats to the kids of deployed moms and dads serving our country. Many are serving in the mid-East and away from their families for extended periods and multiple deployments.

The kids are given rods and reels and tackle boxes with some goodies to make their time on the water memorable. They are supplied with life jackets and water and a hot dog cookout afterwards as well as prizes for the largest, smallest, and oddest catch and biggest fish story of the day. This has been written up in BASSTimes over the last few years.

We are in need of 35 boaters (more if possible) for the kids, a camera boat and maybe some adults or press people. "Hopes Float" provides the pontoon boat for anyone with impairments to enjoy themselves on the water as well. Last year we had 80 kids plus some parents and guardians but this year we've had to back it down to 60 because of a conflicting event that will take some of our previous years' boaters out of state for a qualifying tournament so we REALLY NEED YOUR HELP.

All boaters are invited to participate as they have in the past whether it's from the Bass clubs, the Walleye association or anyone with a sea worthy vessel that can give these kids a few hours of fun and enjoyment. The Wounded Warriors will have a tournament immediately afterwards with 40 participants - they'll fish till 5 pm. They'll start as soon as the kids are on the bus headed back to Ft. Carson. So we NEED YOUR HELP.

Please contact me or Sam Heckman and give a few hours back to the people who protect us and give us the liberties and freedoms we have that allow us to do what we all love to do.

Thanks,

or

And please forward this to anyone you know who would like to be a part of this great event.

UPDATE:
We desperately need boaters.

It's May 27, only a couple weekends till the Ft. Carson Kids Fishing Day event at Pueblo reservoir on June 15 and we only have eleven boaters signed up so far. The CO BASS Federation scheduled the state qualifier in Oklahoma immediately prior to our Ft. Carson event and we'll be very short on boaters from the BASS Federation clubs on the Front Range so we need as much help as we can get. Although many of the BASS guys will want to help, they will have just driven back from Oklahoma the day before and reality sets in. But thankfully we have a couple of those guys committed. The kids are depending on us and looking forward to this annual event.

If you know of anyone with a water ready vessel please pass this on to all - bass and walleye fishermen, weekend anglers, friends with boats - even pontoon boats.

Please get the word out. We're already backing off of our 80 kid participation number, down to 60. Please don't assume we'll know you're coming - commit if you can. This is just a few hours of your time to the families of our Ft. Carson personnel. Let's show our appreciation. Afterwards, the Wounded Warriors will have a short tournament so you can stick around to help with that too if you can.
