Awesome! I haven't caught either of those species! But why stock only 148 flatheads in Cherry Creek? In a lake that size that will be a novelty catch.

Sutherland Res. in Nebraska is a hydro electric lake.......lots of big blues. That's where the state record striper was also caught.....64 lbs!!!

Live bait.......that'll catch flatheads and blues......no stinky stuff either. They like to "hunt and kill" their prey. With that report I'd say that the state record for flats and blues is in jeopardy....... especially if people actually target them instead of channel cats.
Did you see the thread on chubs in the big thompson?.....there's the magic bait......8 to 10 inches is perfect.

try fishing with bigger baits & 8/0 hooks in deeper waters . going night fishing this weekend to try for flatheads hope i get one . i remember fishing john martin when i was 20 years old at night i had 25# line and a baitclicker on and something took all my line out and it just keep taking out line until there was no line just broke it . never see what it was.

Older blues, alot like older flatheads, tend more towards large live fish, usually bigger than anyone fishes with. Also, the blues are more active in the late winter/early spring, usually before anyone is fishing for them. Flatheads like deeps holes in the river or lake with some current.

Makes me wonder if some of those big cats I have caught at Lonetree in the past aren't big blues. *Damn hard to tell the difference except for that anal fin.

I've caught alot of Blue cats below John Martin in the Arkansas River.... they just arent the monsters that people catch in the big rivers in the south.
