Ok, so here's the deal... dad and I were up at Granby and while I was setting up my clam2000 he was punching holes. I had moved my shelter closer to the holes he was punching while not paying attention. When he pulled the auger up, the water splashed on the shelter and froze the zipper. Once I got the shelter completely up, the zipper seperated in the rounded corner at the bottom and does that every time you set up and the fabric gets tight there.
I emailed Clam and they offered a new tent to the tune of $90 or so. Any ideas on what I can use to seal that zipper? I know sewing is obviously an option, but is there any type of glue or sealant you guys might recommend? It's got two doors, so the zipper on one side isn't worth replacing the whole deal. Any help is appreciated.
Can you get the zipper to go back across the seperated section? My shelter has a funky zipper from being packed up for years and sometimes the zipper will seperate. I just bring the zipper back past the seperation point, the re-zip it carefully and it holds just fine. Might be worth a try but it sounds like it might just be broken.
You might try and call/find a seamstress that will put a new zipper on for you. Please let us know what you do, I'd like to get my zipper fixed up too even though it's functional as it is.
It goes back across just fine, but eventually seperated with the tension from the tent. I've considered having a new zipper put in, but again... with the other door working fine, I just can't justify money spent on a new zipper unless it was really cheap. I'd rather just seal it.
Ahh cool, I didn't realize you had two doors, that might be the quickest and cheapest option. I can't imagine a seamstress being very expensive, but I've never used one before so I really don't know.
the zipper on my tent was separating at a tight spot on a curve. the teeth didn't seem to be aligning properly, so I pinched the mechanism ever so slightly with channel locks on each side. It has worked since, but I'm careful going through there and use bar soap to lube it every so often.
I've read a few things on the net about floors cracking and what-not. I've never had these issues and aside from being a little smaller than i would like after purchase, it's been a champ until the zipper deal.
