Word to the wise: if you dare to tie with super hair - hold on to it with a vise-like grip - it tends to pop off the hook until you tie it down. A lined jaw on your hackle pliers may help - some - but prepare for a lot of foul language.

Use 16/0 or finer white thread underneath - makes the hook white, so the colors show through on the super hair - but keeps the hook from getting too fat from thread turns. Utter delight when you get done with the super hair. Wet down the strands of the fluoro fibre with a little water or pull em over your tongue - sounds weird, but we've all done it - makes working with it a breeze. (And I didn't change colors of thread - just used a Sharpie)

Sweet! I've had good luck with that one too. I'm surprised you got so many fish on it, that fly is pretty fragile.

Used about 1/3 of the midges from the swap on the Pan this weekend. Black Juju was favorite among the picky rascals. Red thread midges were the ticket, but none of us tied any of those! The dark, size 20 or smaller emergers with limited flash were also productive. Nice flies all around.

Definitely report back, I'm curious too... though I'm probably too lazy to start tying it, but you never know.

All awesome looking midges. Never thought of leaving the flash as a tail (shuck?). Just what is it imitating?

I really liked Slowdowns midge with the gills. I think that's becasue I have a hard time aligning stuff on the side.
