It will be interesting to see how that works. It sounds like you will be pulling it in line, (some what horizontal). Keep us posted!

Home made down rigger weight

I didn't want to spend $24.00 for a 4 pound ball of lead so I made my own weight out of a one inch copper tube.
Ran a heavy wire through the tube, pinched off one end of the tube so the lead wouldn't leak. Heated the tube with a propane torch while it was a vice while feeding it lead. Then attached a big 275# rated snap swivel to the front for the cable and my release gets attached to the rear wire loop.
I sawed and filed off the corners up front to keep it from snagging.
Scrap lead is about $1.00 a pound.
Next one I make will be a little longer so I can have a rudder I can bend to adjust it if needed. Just have to squish the rear of the tube after I fill it with lead.
I think the torpedo shape will track better wih less resistance then the commercial balls sold.
