I think that it is very important to be ready before you get on the ice. Have your poles rigged, and everything in its place. Cause if you are trying to locate the fish by moving alot things can seem like it just ain't worth moving if it takes you an hour to get set up and find everything. This seems to work well for me at easte for the first couple spots.

Re: new at ice fishing

I think they have cabins open there all winter...so you should be able to call sylvan...it is a strange lake...be prepared...I have fished it a few different seasons...the first time freaked me out...I dont know if the water level changes there...but the first time I drilled there I drilled through in about three turns of the auger...and the auger dropped about 3 or four inches and then hit a second layer of like 15 inch ice...at first I thought I was standing on snow covered two inch ice...had to throw my underwear away for a second or two...and I have seen the same condition up there in other years...I havent seen that anywhere else...

Is Sylvan frozen now? I'm trying to figure out a place to go this weekend. Was thinking of heading up towards Cameron Pass (Barnes, Joe Wright) as I didn't see an update on the State Parks website for Sylvan.

Scratch Epic of your list and add power bait "honey worms" they look like meal worms and catch fish like crazy! (where legal).

Other than that he is a wonderful person!
