They list the top 100 bass lakes nation wide and this year break it down further in that they have the top 25 in the west...no Colorado lakes in the top 25 in the west...last year if I remember right Pueblo made the top 100...

There isn't one in the top 100 because there isn't one that belongs in the top 100. We just don't consistently grow big
bass. Nobodys fault, its just a function of forage and growing season.

Still Pueblo is a great numbers lake.

There are a handful of Colorado bodies of water that have proven over the years that they can grow tank bass, but you can't get 7's and 8's when they're plucked off beds and taken home as 4's and 5's. I wrote an article about having a few gold medal bass lakes which I'm going to keep trying to get done. Might take a decade but I'm not going anywhere.

We're talking about different things here-I never said with proper management the fishing wouldn't be better. Maybe alot better.

But I still don't think that gets us in the top 100. That was my point. Why we don't have C&R like other places I can't
explain-in other places I fish keeping bass is just about unheard of. To the point where TPWD is actually encouraging anglers to keep some, especially smaller ones.

Here we do it just the opposite with allowing anglers to only keep bigger bass.

With the shad count level, size, and warmer longer growing season Pueblo could grow giants if you inacted regs that let u keep the runts and thin out the herd...and protect everthing over 15 inches...

Exactly right. Every lake has a carrying capacity and even with all the shad Pueblo still has too many mouths to feed. We've been arguing for a slot on bass and walleye down there forever. Doubt its ever gonna happen.

If they would try it in just one lake...I didnt think Minnesota would ever do anything like this but they have now on a fair number of lakes and this one is 360 sq mile Rainy Lake that straddles the Minnesota Canadian border...

Including the Rainy River above the dam at International Falls, all of Rainy Lake to the dam at Kettle Falls, Black Bay including Gold Portage below the rapids, all of the Rat Root River, and Rat Root Lake. (Koochiching and St. Louis Counties) walleye and sauger: Possession limit of eight (Not more than four can be walleye; walleye from 17-28" must be immediately released; One walleye over 28" allowed in possession.)

Slot limits would help a lot of waters and species here. Also seasons would help as well. An example would be:
From http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10364_53405-213979--,00.html Starting in 2015, anglers can catch-and-immediately-release largemouth and smallmouth bass all year (January 1 - December 31). The catch-and-keep season for both species runs later in the year. For Lake St. Clair, the St. Clair River and the Detroit River the season is the third Saturday in June through December 31. For all other waters, including the Great Lakes, the season is the Saturday before Memorial Day through December 31.
